¿Realmente conviene arrendar un carro?

Últimamente se ha hecho muy popular el arrendamiento de autos, ya que las cuotas mensuales son generalmente más bajas que en una transacción de compra.

Si estás considerando adquirir un carro, quizás estás enfrentando el dilema de comprar o arrendar.

La idea del arrendamiento es de que puedes financiar un carro de lujo por unas cuotas de pago más bajas, ya que no tienes que pagar el costo total de financiar un vehiculo, sino que sólo pagas por su uso durante un cierto período de tiempo, que por lo general es de dos a tres años.

Términos del arrendamiento

Pago inicial: También conocido como cuota de entrada, en la mayoría de los casos es menor que la cuota de entrada para la compra de un carro y consiste en el depósito de seguro y el primer mes de arrendamiento, junto a otros cargos.

Cuota mensual: El monto de las cuotas mensuales se basa en la diferencia entre el precio de mercado en el momento de la transacción, y el valor residual al final del arrendamiento, y dicha diferencia se financia considerando el factor monetario.

Como en toda transacción financiera, tu puntaje de crédito afectará los términos del arrendamiento. Por lo tanto, el factor monetario variará de acuerdo a tu crédito.

Puedes determinar la tasa de interés anual, simplemente preguntando cuál es el factor monetario del arrendamiento y multiplicando dicho factor por 2,400.

Por ejemplo, si el factor monetario es 0.00375, la tasa de interés anual será 0.00375 x 2,400 9%.

Número de meses del arrendamiento: Período del arrendamiento en meses. En la mayoría de los casos es 24 ó 36 meses.

Valor residual: Es el valor estimado del auto al término del período de arrendamiento, y está basado en en el precio marcado en la etiqueta o MSRP, y no en el precio negociado. El valor residual puede oscilar entre el 50% y 58% del precio de etiqueta.

Límites de millas: Existe un limite de 10,000 a 12,000 millas por año, en algunos casos pueden ser más millas. Si te excedes de este millaje, te cobrarán por milla adicional. Las financieras cargan en promedio de 18 a 22 centavos la milla adicional.

Cargos adicionales al final del arrendamiento: Al término del período de arrendamiento, sólo debes devolver el auto al concesionario, y si las condiciones del vehículo son buenas y de acuerdo a las condiciones del contrato, no debes pagar nada adicional.

El vehículo debe ser entregado en óptimas condiciones de lo contrario el concesionario puede añadir cargos por daños. Por ello es aconsejable que antes de devolver el vehículo, lo lleves al concesionario para una pre-inspección del carro, y de ésta forma puedes hacer los arreglos necesarios.

Opción de compra: La mayoría de los arrendamientos te dan la opción de compra al final del contrato, por lo que meses antes de finalizar el mismo, la compañía financiera te contactará para tratar de negociar un acuerdo para que te quedes con el carro; en otras palabras tratará de vendértelo y si aceptas y no dispones del dinero para comprarlo, ellos mismos pueden convertir el arrendamiento en un préstamo normal de auto .

A la larga, esta opción te puede resultar más costosa que si hubieras comprado el carro desde el inicio, y es por eso que debes hacer un cálculo municioso en el proceso.

Otra cosa que hay que considerar es que si arriendas una casa, no acumulas ningún patrimonio y lo mismo sucede cuando arriendas un carro, y si bien es cierto que los autos se deprecian con el tiempo, siempre al final aún les queda el valor residual que lo puedes usar para cambiarlo por otro carro, venderlo, o donarlo a una organizacion sin fines de lucro.

Sanding Floors

Sand floors down to bare wood if there’s a wax finish on top of the polyurethane, if the finish has worn through or if the floor has been stained or damaged.

Before you start. Use the same preparations for screening, though you might want to create a double airlock (plastic on both sides of a door) to keep the dust confined it really flies with a drum sander.

You may also want to think twice about doing this work yourself, particularly if it’s a large open area where any unevenness in the floor will be evident in the finish. A drum sander can dig into the floor very quickly and leave unsightly gouges when operated by an inexperienced person. A professional will charge $1.50 to $3 per square foot, including finish application and cleanup.

If you are going to do the work yourself, watch a how-to video (try a rental store or the local library) before you start.

Sanding Pointers. You can rent a drum sander, which does the main floor, and edger for around $55 a day. Neither device reaches into corners fully, so you’ll have to scrape these areas with a razor-sharp floor scraper.

Using the drum sander and working with the grain of the wood, make at least two passes in each direction with 60-, 80- and 100-grit sanding disks. (Skip 20- and 36-grit disks unless you’re stripping paint off the floor.) The disks for the drum sander typically cost $3 each; for the edger the disks run $2 each. To ensure a more even floor, keep the following tips in mind:

  • Keep the sander moving; stalling it in one place will result in a noticeable swale.
  • Move at a steady, even pace to take off a uniform amount.
  • Don’t muscle the sander.
  • Don’t drop the sanding drum down on the floor too quickly after picking it up to make a turn, or you’ll gouge the floor.

    Again, bag the sawdust and leave it outside, away from anything flammable.

    Do you rent video games from kiosk-based rental company Redbox? If so, you’ll soon be paying more. The company on Monday announced a price hike for games. Effective January 6, the nightly rental rate will be $3, up from the current price of $2.

    Redbox is also hiking prices for DVDs and Blu-rays, which will jump to $1.50 and $2, respectively. This is the first time Redbox has raised its prices for games and Blu-rays.

    “The pricing adjustments announced today will allow Redbox to continue to offer consumers high quality movies and games while making investments to enhance the customer experience,” Redbox parent company Outerwall CEO J. Scott Di Valerio said in a statement .

    Specific to video games, Redbox says the price hike was needed “so we can stock more top titles and roll out games for new consoles to more cities next year.”

    The new price points for movie and game rentals were decided upon after “several months of market testing,” the company added. While rental volume is expected to take a hit in the near-term as a result of the price changes, Outerwall said the increases, along with Redbox’s “network optimization initiatives,” should help offset future declines in the physical rental market.

    SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO Ortega Highway, the historic and crucial link between Orange and Riverside counties, was closed Wednesday afternoon for an undetermined period after suffering what one Caltrans official called substantial storm damage.

    The move leaves the congested 91 freeway as the only practical pathway between the regions.

    Those heading east on Ortega can only get as far as Antonio Parkway, three miles from the I-5 freeway. On the other end, Highway 74 is closed at Grand Avenue in Lake Elsinore. Those who live along Ortega were allowed beyond the barricades.

    We know it s an inconvenience for commuters, but we ve got to make sure the road is safe, said Jocelyn Whitfield, a Caltrans spokeswoman.

    The troubled part of the rural roadway is east of Antonio Parkway.

    Because of the recent storms, Ortega is now sagging in a stretch, which was noticed Wednesday. Geo-technical engineers for Caltrans, after getting a report that the road seemed to be dipping, were inspecting the roadway when they discovered large cracks in the eastbound lanes, Whitfield said.

    Caltrans needs to deeply assess the damage before determine when Ortega can re-open.

    Over five days ending Monday, three storms dropped 5.6 inches of rainwater onto the area, according to the National Weather Service. Nearly 12 inches have fallen there this month.

    The 8,000-acre Caspers Wilderness Park, an Orange County-operated swath along Ortega, was shut as well until the highway re-opens.

    The historic highway originated in the 1920s and now stretches 32 miles over the Santa Ana Mountains.

    For years there had been discussions to widen Ortega beyond largely one lane in each direction, but the proposal was scrapped a year ago after locals complained that would attract more development and vehicles.

    Joshua Sudock began his Orange County Register career in 2004 as a photojournalist. In the ensuing years he’s won multiple awards from the National Press Photographers Association, Associated Press and The California Newspaper Association. His work has been syndicated in publications around the world and across the country; from The New York Times to TIME. In 2016, Sudock transitioned from the photo department to the metro desk and became the newsroom’s leadoff breaking news and crime reporter.

    Lean Six Sigma Certification

    We see Lean Six Sigma (when “done right”) as a key enabler of Excellence and set up the Lean Six Sigma Academy over 10 years ago. We recognised the role we could play in supporting our members, as well as other organisations, by ensuring that a rigorous and impartial system was set up to certify Lean Six Sigma practitioners.

    Working with leading businesses and specialist consultancies, the Academy developed the standards at each level and operates a certification process for five Lean Six Sigma practitioner levels and four Lean practitioner levels .

    Our fundamental principle is that candidates must be able to demonstrate successful practical application of the methods, not simply pass an exam.

    Our certification register currently lists over 1500 Green Belts, over 300 Black Belts and almost 100 Master Black Belts from major companies in the private and public sectors in the UK, Europe and beyond.

    Certification is a three step process for each:
    • Complete appropriate training.
    • Pass the exam at the relevant level.
    • Present evidence of practice for assessment.

    Successful candidates receive a written feedback report and certificate, and join our official Certification Register. Setting high performance expectations, the Academy has certified 1,000s of LSS candidates.

    Your certification does not expire. However, many individuals and businesses value being able to demonstrate Continuing Professional Development in the field of Continuous Improvement so we have implemented a Licence of Current Practice which is issued with your certificate and can then be renewed every three years.

    • Your certificate remains valid forever (as a Degree certificate would for example).
    • After three years, although it is not compulsory, we do advise you to renew your licence to demonstrate you are up to date with current Lean Six Sigma practice.
    • To do this you will need to provide evidence that you have undertaken Continued Professional Development (CPD) in Lean Six Sigma over the last three years.
    • If you do not renew your licence within the three years you will appear as ‘inactive’ on the certification register.

    There are many organisations offering Lean Six Sigma and Lean certification – why should I choose BQF?

    We understand that this is a source of frustration for individuals and businesses. Some points for you to consider are:

    • Is the certification based on exam only or does it include the assessment of how you put the skills into practice?
    • If the certifying body is the same as the organisation providing your training your certification may be seen as less valid
    • Who is the ultimate authority behind the certification?
    • To what degree will this certification enhance my CV?
    • Will current/future employers recognise or value this certification?
    Does my GB/BB/MBB certificate expire?

    No. The principle is the same as, for example, a university degree certificate. This certifies that you achieved this qualification on the date shown on your certificate but does not indicate whether you have maintained and further developed your skills since that date.

    Is online training accepted for acquisition of knowledge?

    Yes, provided it meets the same criteria as classroom training and can be evidenced as described.

    Is internal company delivered training accepted?

    Yes, provided it is a formal course endorsed by your company’s training department and can be evidenced as described.

    Could you define “recognised, reputable (training) organisation”?

    It would be unfair for us to insist that only officially accredited BQF training organisations can provide training for these purposes but we also need to protect the integrity of the licence. We suggest that you use good judgement when selecting training providers. We reserve the right to refuse to accept training certificates from organisations whose credentials we cannot satisfy ourselves are acceptable.

    How will I receive my certificate?

    An electronic certificate will be emailed to you along with instructions on how to take full advantage of your digital certificate. Electronic certificates can then be added to LinkedIn, shared via social media or downloaded as a PDF.
